Latest news, announcements and updates
Welcome
May is a time of growth and momentum, and that spirit is alive here in our county.
As we move closer to the next election cycle, our focus remains on strengthening
our local party, supporting our candidates, and standing firmly for our shared
conservative values. The work we do now—together—will shape the future of our
community. Thank you for continuing to stay engaged and committed. I hope you
enjoy reading this month’s installment of the GOP newsletter.

Chairman's Corner
It’s time to get to work. The County and District conventions are over and they were very
successful. Thanks to Horton Middle School for hosting our county convention
again, this year. The students even set up chairs and tables before we arrived, which
gave us more time for fellowship and to prepare for delegates and guests. Our special
guests included Sen. Amy Galey, NC Supreme Court Associate Justice Trey Allen,
and NC GOP Chair Jason Simmons. The District 4 convention was held in Apex, NC
and the District 9 convention was held in Asheboro, NC. Both were very well
attended, and we appreciate Courtney Geels and Rick Smith for the work they do at
the district level. Our NC State Convention will be held June 11-14 in Greensboro,
and we are excited to be part of it. If you have never been to the state convention, it
is worth going to see how the Grand Old Party operates.
We are excited to announce that the Chatham County Republican Party has moved
into our new office. The office is located at 79 West Innovation Hub, 120 Mosaic
Blvd, Pittsboro NC. We have a nice storage area in the basement and were able to
move out of the other storage unit we had been renting for a couple of years. Our
plan is to have a grand opening on May 31st so that Republicans can come and see
the office and storage space. Stay tuned for details.
Our Chatham County Young Republicans were hosted by Sunette Bridges on April
23rd for the first time since being restarted. Zack Almond was the guest speaker and
there were 15-20 people there. That’s a great turnout for the first meeting and we
appreciate Sunette opening her home for this event. Thanks to all who contributed
to the this first meeting and especially to Brandt Anderson, the Young Republican
Chair. We look forward to having more events as the year progresses.
On June 27th, we will be having a very special event called Celebrate America 250.
This event will be held at Rivers and Bridges Farm. Our plan is to have a BBQ, silent
auction, and special music. There will be several guest speakers, and all local
candidates will be there to share their vision for Chatham County. We are looking
forward to hosting this event to celebrate our country’s 250-year anniversary.

State GOP News
An encouraging sign for Republicans is that voter registration trends continue to
shift in our direction. Republican voter registration now tops Democrat registration
and North Carolina continues to be the most important battleground state in the
nation. With an open U.S. Senate seat and competitive races across the state,
national attention is focused on North Carolina this year. It is estimated that the US
Senate race alone could cost as much as $600 to $800 Million, making it the most
expensive US Senate race in history.
North Carolina Republicans in the General Assembly are working to pass a state
budget which includes debates over tax cuts, government spending, and raises.
They were able to pass a Medicaid funding bill just this past week. There is debate
going on about local county property taxes. We know that they are too high and
many within our county don’t reap the benefits of the higher taxes. Let’s hope the
General Assembly does the right thing and freezes any property tax increase for
this next fiscal year.

National GOP News
In national news, a huge decision came down from the US Supreme Court this week.
Racial gerrymandering of congressional districts ended with the Louisiana v. Callais
decision. The GOP stands to potentially pick up seats in the US House this fall.
Many states in the South can re-district because of past gerrymandering.
The largest government shutdown in history is over. ICE and Customs Border
Protection will be funded through reconciliation (with no Democrat votes) so
liberals can’t play games with federal law enforcement funding. We appreciate and
should thank the great, patriotic employees who continued to protect our
homeland every day without a guaranteed paycheck. President Trump and
congressional Republicans had to fight very hard to find to end this shutdown.
Democrats in the House and Senate believe border security and immigration
enforcement should not exist.
The threats and assassination attempts against Donald Trump serve as a sobering
reminder of how deeply divided and, at times, radicalized our political climate has
become. Regardless of political differences, violence and threats have no place in
our republic. Many Democratic leaders and left-wing media have championed those
threats. I encourage our members to be in prayer—for the safety of our leaders and
their families, for peace in our nation, and for a renewed commitment to civil
discourse. May we each do our part to stand firmly for our conservative values
while rejecting hatred and division.

In 1776, America declared itself free and independent — and in 2026, we celebrate
250 years of liberty, self-government, and the enduring American experiment.

to set brushfires of freedom in the minds of men.”— Samuel Adams
